The 2nd International Tour of Geroskipou was held with big success in Pafos, Cyprus with more participations and very successful organization.
The race was held on the 6th and 7th of February with the participation of 65 riders from 9 different countries. The race was organized by Bikin'Cyprus Events Management with the support of the Cyprus Cycling Federation and the Geroskipou Municipality The main sponsor was the Cyprus Tourism Organization.
For the first stage of the race, took the Men Elite and Junior Men riders for a beautiful trip in the Pafos and Limassol region. The riders left the Gerorskipou square and headed towards Episkopi passing on their way from the Petra tou Romiou scenic road and the historical monuments like the ancient Curium Theater and the temple of Apollon. The race then headed towards the mountains passing from the picturesque villages of Anogyra, Plataniskia and Alectora before finishing back in Geroskipou. The starting flag was dropped by the mayor of Geroskipou Mr. Tasos Kouzoupos, who expresse his satisfaction for the evolution of the race in only its second year of existence: “Our municipality promotes sport and will continue to support the efforts for sports growth like this cycling race. We wish to see this race develop into another big sports event that our municipality organizes."

Is well know that Cyprus represents a perfect winter and spring training center for many well know cyclists from the world elite.
The island has perfect weather for cycling, especially in the months between October and April, when temperatures range between 15°C and 25°C, while annual rainfall is also quite low in comparison to European countries. What's more, unlike other European or Mediterranean countries, the strong headwinds that are a bane to cyclists, here are rare.
But what makes Cyprus stand out as a heaven for cyclists is its compactness. It is like a whole continent condensed into a small island. The third largest island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus combines attractive beaches with pine-clad peaks, busy modern Europeanised towns and tranquil old stone villages, vineyards and olive groves and ancient ruins. The short distances mean that there are rapid changes of terrain entailing a variety of different road surfaces over short distances.

Municipality of Geroskipou in cooperation with the Cyprus Cycling Federation and MH BikinCyprus Events Management are organizing for second time the International Road Race “Tour of Geroskipou”. The race is sponsored by the Cyprus Sports Organization.
The race, which is organized for the second time in the Pafos district, is an event for Cyprus that intends to develop road cycling in Cyprus on international level. Cyprus for the last 11 years is organizing high level mountain bike races. Our aim is to start a serious attempt to establish this event to high level and attract many professional and amateurs to Cyprus. Is well know that Cyprus represents a perfect winter and spring training center for many well know cyclists from the world elite. The perfect weather conditions during the months of October to May, the changing landscape, the wonderful scenery and a very well established road network makes Cyprus an ideal destination for Cyclists.
The race “Tour of Geroskipou” is a two days stage race and will take place on the 6th and 7th February 2010. The race is open to riders of the Men elite and Women elite categories, Junior men, and Masters 1 (31-40 years) and (41+ years)
The race will be carried out in two stages. On Saturday 6th February the stage is 100km long. Start is in Geroskipou Sport Complex and the race heads towards Alektora - Erimi and Finish in Kouklia.
On Sunday 7th February the second stage will be a criterium race in Geroskipou municipality. Start and finish areas are again in the town sport complex. The race will take place on a 2km long circuit and the riders will cover is several times depending on their category. |
